Uncommonly early 8x10-inch double-weight black and white profile portrait by Apeda, signed and inscribed in black fountain pen in the late 1920s or 1930s. In fine condition, with scattered very mild handling bends and most of the writing penned against the dark fabric of his jacket, with moderate signature contrast. Veteran stage, and silent and Golden Age character actor Sidney Blackmer is remembered by horror buffs for his starring roles as Eugene Fulton in The Lady and the Monster (1944) and the scheming warlock Roman Castevet in Rosemary's Baby (1968). He was elsewhere memorable in Little Caesar (1931), The Count of Monte Cristo (1934), Heidi (1937), Charlie Chan at Monte Carlo (1937), Thank You, Mr. Moto (1937), The Last Gangster (1937), Angels with Broken Wings (1941), The Panther's Claw (1941), Duel in the Sun (1946), High Society (1956), and How to Murder Your Wife (1965).
