Scarce vintage 8x10-inch double-weight sepia-tone portrait by Clarence Sinclair Bull, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen-- unusual, in that he did not sign "Chas Butterworth," as was his custom-- around 1935. In very good condition. Before his tragic death in a road accident at the age of 49, effete, waffling character actor Charles Butterworth was memorable in films like Side Show (1931), horror's The Mad Genius (1933) with John Barrymore, Bulldog Drummond Strikes Back (1934), Baby Face Harrington (1935), Magnificent Obsession (1935), The Moon's Our Home (1936), This Is the Army (1943), and Bermuda Mystery (1944).
