Cat. #000671: ARTHUR BYRON

RARE vintage 8x10-inch double-weight black and white portrait by Vandamm Studios, boldly signed in black fountain pen in 1935, during his time opposite Katharine Cornell in George Bernard Shaw's "Saint Joan" on stage. In good condition for its age, with a few flecks of discoloration in the background, nowhere near the writing. Veteran Broadway character actor Arthur Byron came to Hollywood at the dawn of the talkie era, typically cast as high-ranking politicos and business executives, sometimes concealing dark and self-serving intentions.  Best remembered by horror, sci-fi and fantasy buffs for his starring role as Sir Joseph Whemple in Karl Freund's The Mummy (1932), he was also noteworthy in 20,000 Years in Sing Sing (1932), The President Vanishes (1934), Stand Up and Cheer (1934), and Prisoner of Shark Island (1936).
