Cat. #00080714: MARTINE CAROL

Scarce vintage inscribed black fountain pen signature on a 4x6-inch off-white card, acquired in-person by inveterate autograph hound John Virzi in 1965 and decorated with a small Players Directory image. In good condition. Promoted as France's answer to Marilyn Monroe, Martine Carol starred in several dozen French films of the late 1940s and early 1950s, the most notable of which was Max Ophuls's Lola Montes (1955). Her career began to decline following the rise in popularity of Brigitte Bardot and, at the age of 46, she died tragically of a sudden heart attack.
