Classic Entertainment Autographs

Scarce vintage 5x7-inch matte-finish sepia-tone portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen in the 1940s. In fine condition, with pin holes to the corners and faint silvering to the darker areas of the image, completely invisible when the photograph is viewed head-on.  Prolific character actor Hobart Cavanaugh played downtrodden, henpecked nobodies in scores of classic films of the 1930s and 1940s, with two memorable horror roles:  Professor Jasper Quigley in Horror Island (1941) and Bill Stapleton in The Spider Woman Strikes Back (1946).  He was also memorable as Dearing in the Sherlock Holmes film A Study in Scarlet (1933), opposite Reginald Owen.
