Highly rare vintage 3.5 x 5.5-inch matte-finish black and white postcard portrait from James Whale's legendary stage production of "Journey’s End," boldly signed in black fountain pen: “Best wishes / Colin Clive.” In fine condition, with moderate silvering to the darker areas of the image. English stage and screen actor Colin Clive is forever remembered for his electrifying portrayals of the titular mad scientist in James Whale’s Frankenstein (1931) and Bride of Frankenstein (1935), two classics of the horror, sci-fi and fantasy genres. He also starred as Orlac in the Peter Lorre favorite Mad Love (1935). In 1937, Clive died tragically of tuberculosis, exasperated by his longtime alcoholism, aged only 37 years.
