Highly rare vintage 3.25 x 5.5-inch sepia-tone British postcard portrait, neatly signed in black fountain pen in the early 1930s. A minor diagonal crease to the upper right-hand corner and gentle edgewear; otherwise, in fine condition for its age and quite handsome for display. English stage and screen actor Colin Clive is forever remembered for his electrifying portrayals of the titular mad scientist in James Whale’s Frankenstein (1931) and Bride of Frankenstein (1935), two classics of the horror, sci-fi and fantasy genres. He also starred as Orlac in the Peter Lorre favorite Mad Love (1935). In 1937, Clive died tragically of tuberculosis, exasperated by his longtime alcoholism, aged only 37 years.
