Cat. #001051213: PEGGY CORDAY

Ultra-rare and highly sought vintage 8x10-inch black and white publicity portrait by Fayer Studios for the stage play "Early to Bed" (1943-1944)-- just the second autographed photograph of the cult star we have ever encountered, with the other selling for $425 at auction-- signed and inscribed in black fountain pen around the time of the production. In good condition for its age, with minor surface crinkles. Gorgeous redheaded actress and singer Peggy Corday was hand-selected by Max Reindhardt to play the goddess Venus in his "Helen of Troy" in 1944. Scantily clad in a white robe hemmed all the way up to her buttocks and wearing her luxurious tresses down to the same, she proved so outrageously alluring in the role that she landed pin-up shoots in a number of magazines, including Life and Yank, proving a favorite of World War II servicemen based in the Pacific Theater. In 1949, she became Robert L. Ripley's sidekick on T.V.'s "Ripley's Believe It or Not!" After the show was canceled, Corday totally vanished from the entertainment field, having signed very few autographs during her brief career.
