Cat. #001244113: DUDLEY DIGGES

Fantastic, uncommonly early 6.7 x 11-inch sepia-tone costume portrait by James Bushnell as the clerk in the 1912 stage play "Disraeli," boldly signed in black fountain pen at the time of the production. In good condition, with a blue ink stain to the upper left-hand area and some gentle edgewear. Reliable Irish character actor Dudley Digges is remembered by horror, sci-fi and fantasy buffs for his portrayals of Thompson in Outward Bound (1930) and the befuddled Chief Detective in James Whale's The Invisible Man (1933). Elsewhere, he stole every scene in films like The Maltese Falcon (1931), Alexander Hamilton (1931), Emperor Jones (1933), I Am a Thief (1934), Mutiny on the Bounty (1935), The Bishop Misbehaves (1935), and Three Live Ghosts (1936).
