Attractive Melinda Dillon was nominated for two Academy Awards, for sci-fi's Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) and Absence of Malice (1981). She was elsewhere wonderful in The April Fools (1969), The Muppet Movie (1979), A Christmas Story (1983), and Magnolia (1999).
