Vintage 1920s 3.5 x 5.5-inch matte-finish sepia-tone German Ross Verlag postcard portrait, boldly signed in black fountain pen. In good condition, with gentle edge wear. German silent film actor William Dieterle went on to direct a series of memorable biopics for Warner Brothers, including The Story of Louis Pasteur (1935), The Life of Emile Zola (1937), Juarez (1939), and Dr. Ehrlich's Magic Bullet (1940). Among horror and sci-fi buffs, he is remembered as the director of Waxworks (1924) and The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939), and for his portrayal of Valentin, Gretchen's brother, in Faust (1926).
