Rare and terrific handwritten, signed letter in black fountain pen on a slightly trimmed, roughly 5x7-inch sheet of tan stationery, undated but probably dating to the 1860s or 1870s. In fine condition, with some mailing folds, light toning and some surface crinkles. Legendary 19th-century French printmaker, illustrator, painter, comics artist, caricaturist, and sculptor Gustave Dore is remembered for his iconic woodcuts for classic works of literature, including the Holy Bible, Dante's Divine Comedy, Coleridge's The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, and the works of Edgar Allan Poe.
