Cat. #001324: GILBERT EMERY

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Rare vintage indigo fountain pen signature on a 4x6-inch pale yellow autograph album page, acquired in-person by inveterate collector Rae Sargent at the El Capitan Theater in the 1930s and decorated with a magazine image.  In good condition for its age, with a few surface crinkles along the left edge.  Character actor Gilbert Emery played distinguished, aristocratic types in films like The Sky Hawk (1929), Scandal Sheet (1931), A Farewell to Arms (1932), The House of Rothschild (1934), The Man Who Reclaimed His Head (1934), Cardinal Richelieu (1935), Magnificent Obsession (1935), Little Lord Fauntleroy (1936), The Life of Emile Zola (1937), The Buccaneer (1938), Juarez (1939), Nurse Edith Cavell (1939), The House of Seven Gables (1940), The Loves of Edgar Allan Poe (1942), and The Brighton Strangler (1945).  He is fondly remembered by horror and mystery film buffs for his key roles as Sir Basil Humphrey in Dracula's Daughter (1936); Sir Henry Marchmont in Sherlock Holmes in Washington (1943), alongside Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce; and Dr. Walter Saunders in The Return of the Vampire (1944).
