Cat. #001351012: RAINER WERNER FASSBINDER

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Ultra-rare vintage 4 x 5.75-inch black and white portrait, boldly signed in blue felt-tip pen, probably in the late 1970s or early 1980s. In very fine condition. Brilliant German film director and provocateur Rainer Werner Fassbinder had a phenomenal creative energy-- when working-- which coexisted with a wild, self-destructive liberalism, earning him a reputation as the enfant terrible of New German Cinema. Before his tragic death of a drug overdose at the age of 37, he created a mixed bag of avant-garde and commercial films, exploring gay themes and classic German literature in Gods of the Plague (1970), The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant (1972), Ali: Fear Eats the Soul (1974), The Marriage of Maria Braun (1979), and Lili Marleen (1982), among other classics.
