Surprisingly uncommon 8x10-inch black and white portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in black fine-tip pen along his collar. In very good condition. Familiar-faced character actor Ed Flanders was typically cast as men of authority, most notably Dr. Westphal on T.V.'s "St. Elsewhere" (1982-1988), and was regularly called upon to play President Harry Truman on television and in films. He is remembered by horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and mystery fans for his portrayals of Hosea Knowlten in The Legend of Lizzie Borden (1975), Dr. Bill Norton in 'Salem's Lot (1979) and the ill-fated Father Dyer in The Exorcist III (1990). Racked by severe back pain and serious depression, he committed suicide by gunshot in 1995, aged only 60. Despite his long career, this is just the third example of his autograph we've ever encountered.
