Lovely vintage 8x10-inch heavystock sepia-tone portrait, boldly signed with her name alone in black fountain pen. In good condition, with one light corner crease, and nice for display. Refined silent movie queen Pauline Frederick was stellar in films like The Spider (1916), now lost; The Slave Island (1916); Madame X (1920); Smouldering Fires (1925); Devil's Island (1926); and on Trial (1928). With the advent of the talkie era, she played elder relatives and society matrons older than her actual age, as in This Modern Age (1931), The Phantom of Crestwood (1932), Ramona (1936), and Thank You, Mr. Moto (1937). She died following an emergency abdominal surgery at the age of 58.
