Cat. #001422123: ROBERT FULTON

EXTREMELY rare clipped black fountain pen signature, measuring roughly 1x4 inches, clipped form the close of an early 1800s letter, affixed to a larger piece of backing paper and decoratively mounted to an 8.5 x 11-inch collector's sheet bearing a printed image of the signer. In good condition, with some age-related toning to the signature. American inventor, engineer and entrepreneur Robert Fulton, who lived from 1765 to 1815, gained immortality for designing the first commercially successful steamboat. His other endeavors included a commission from Napoleon that resulted in the first practical submarine named the Nautilus.
