Cat. #0014231212: JAMES GLEASON

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Quite scarce vintage inscribed black fountain pen signature on a roughly 2.75 x 5-inch tan card, acquired in-person in the late 1930s. In fine condition, with two strips of toning along the left and right edges. Silent and early talkie character actor James Gleason played an assortment of hotheaded cops, cranky relatives and neighbors, wisecracking bartenders, and Irish clergymen in classic films like Puttin' on the Ritz (1930), On Your Toes (1939), Meet John Doe (1941), Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941), My Gal Sal (1942), Tales of Manhattan (1942), Arsenic and Old Lace (1944), The Keys of the Kingdom (1944), A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (1945), The Bishop's Wife (1947), The Life of Riley (1949), Suddenly (1954), The Night of the Hunter (1955), and Loving You (1957). He was also a screenwriter of some note.
