Highly rare vintage 5 x 7.75-inch matte-finish sepia-tone portrait, inscribed in block writing and autographed in cursive, all in black fountain pen. In good condition, with faint silvering to the darker areas of the left half of the photograph. Diminutive, bald British character actor and occasional playwright Ferdinand Gottschalk appeared in nearly 70 films between 1930 and 1938, occasionally unbilled, but never unnoticeable. Highlights of his career included Grand Hotel (1932), Sign of the Cross (1932), Cleopatra (1934), Secret of the Chateau (1934), Madame DuBarry (1934), Les Miserables (1935), The Gay Deception (1935), and Ali Baba Goes to Town (1937).
