Cat. #00144232: MARY GORDON

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Exceptionally rare vintage handwritten, signed sentiment in black fountain pen-- quite perfect for matting, due to the absence of an inscription-- on a 4x6-inch tan autograph album page, acquired in-person in the 1930s. In good condition, with a few minor surface creases. Grey-haired, Scottish-born character actress Mary Gordon played kindhearted mothers and housekeepers in nearly 300 films and television programs from the silent era through the 1950s. She is best known for her recurring role as Mrs. Hudson in the Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes series of the 1930s and 1940s, and was memorable in a long string of horror, sci-fi and fantasy favorites, including Charlie Chan in the Black Camel (1931), Frankenstein (1931), The Invisible Man (1931), Men Must Fight (1933), The Bride of Frankenstein (1935), The Invisible Man Returns (1940), The Invisible Woman (1940), The Strange Case of Doctor Rx (1942), The Mummy's Tomb (1942), The Body Snatcher (1942), Strange Confession (1945), The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (1947), and Mighty Joe Young (1949).
