Cat. #0014761221: JACK HALEY

Bold vintage pencil signature on a 2x4-inch slip, acquired in-person by a busy New York City-based autograph hound in the late 1930s or early 1940s. In good condition, with the final letter of his name trailing off the right edge. Mild-mannered vaudeville song and dance man Jack Haley entered films during the late silent era and appeared in some 30 pictures through 1977, none more memorable than The Wizard of Oz (1939). His unforgettable role as the (allegedly) heartless Tin Man was originally slated for Buddy Ebsen, but due to the latter's allergic reaction to the aluminum powder makeup, Haley was recruited in the eleventh hour.
