Choice vintage 8x10-inch black and white portrait as Pope Julius II, who commissioned Michelangelo to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, in The Agony and the Ecstasy (1965), boldly signed with his name alone in black felt-tip pen in the 1980s. In good condition, with minor corner wear. Dubbed "Sexy Rexy" by the press, which lapped up his scandal-plagued personal antics, he went on to star in The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947); Unfaithfully Yours (1948); Cleopatra (1963), for which he was nominated for an Academy Award; My Fair Lady (1964), which earned him the Oscar; The Agony and the Ecstasy (1965); and Doctor Doolittle (1967).
