Highly scarce and quite early vintage 8x10-inch matte-finish silver-tone studio portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen in the 1920s. In fine condition, with mild creasing and light staining in the bottom left-hand corner, and a faint horizontal bend running from the right edge through the top of his left ear, all only minimally detracting from the overall appearance of the image. Raymond Hatton was one of the most prolific character actors in Hollywood history, with over 300 movie credits between 1909 and his retirement in 1967. Best known for his work in cowboy flicks, most memorably as Johnny Mack Brown's sidekick, he was also memorable in two sci-fi favorites, The Day the World Ended (1955) and Invasion of the Saucer Men (1957). Despite the length of his career, signed photos are unaccountably extremely difficult to come by, and this is the nicest we've ever seen!
