Brilliant ballet star Robert Helpmann, who starred in The Red Shoes (1948) and Tales of Hoffman (1951), was also a deliciously eccentric character actor, noteworthy as the child catcher in 1968's Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the Mad Hatter in 1972's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
