Cat. #001514342: HUGH HERBERT

Vintage fountain pen signature, adding his catchphrase "Woo woo!", on a 4x6-inch pale green autograph album page, acquired in-person in 1939 and decorated with a small magazine image. In good condition, with a few negligible surface crinkles and a light ink stain to the right edge, well away from the writing.  Frenetically energized comic actor Hugh Herbert, who was the inspiration for Warner Brothers' cartoon character Daffy Duck, played eccentric millionaires, dimwitted professors, fast-talking schemers, and bumbling sidekicks in films like Million Dollar Legs (1932), A Midsummer Night's Dream (1935), Gold Diggers of 1935 (1935), Sh! The Octopus (1937), The Great Waltz (1938), Eternally Yours (1939), the horror flick The Black Cat (1941), Hellzapoppin' (1941), Kismet (1944), and One Touch of Venus (1948).
