Highly rare vintage blue ballpoint pen signature on a 4x5-inch lined notebook leaf, acquired in-person by an indefatigable New York City-based autograph hound in the early 1950s. In fine condition, with some minor surface creases and a small tear to the bottom area, well away from the writing, which has been repaired on the verso with a strip of tape. Charming, sad-eyed singer and actress Judy Holliday recreated her role as Billie Dawn in the Broadway hit "Born Yesterday" (1946) in the 1950 film of the same name, earning her an Academy Award. A decade later, after regular appearances in films, she snagged a Tony for a knockout performance in the stage musical "Bells Are Ringing", in which she so memorably sang the tragic standard "The Party's Over". The latter almost seemed an omen of things to come: Not long thereafter, the star was dead from breast cancer, aged only 43 years.
