Cat. #001539: JUDY HOLLIDAY

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

From a massive horde of signatures, all acquired in-person over three decades by indefatigable autograph hound John Virzi, comes this highly rare vintage inscribed black fountain pen signature on a 4x6-inch white card, acquired at the height of her fame and decorated with a small magazine image. In good condition. Charming, sad-eyed singer and actress Judy Holliday recreated her role as Billie Dawn in the Broadway hit "Born Yesterday" (1946) in the 1950 film of the same name, earning her an Academy Award. A decade later, after regular appearances in films, she snagged a Tony for a knockout performance in the stage musical "Bells Are Ringing", in which she so memorably sang the tragic standard "The Party's Over". The latter almost seemed an omen of things to come: Not long thereafter, the star was dead from breast cancer, aged only 43 years.
