Rare vintage 4-3/4 x 6-1/8-inch matte-finish sepia-tone portrait, signed in black fountain pen in the 1930s. In very fine condition. English-born Leslie Howard played slim, tall, dreamy-eyed types in films like Of Human Bondage (1934), The Petrified Forest (1936) and Pygmalion (1938), earning two Oscar nominations. In 1939, he landed the role for which he will forever be remembered; that of disillusioned Southern gentleman Ashley Wilkes, the object of Vivien Leigh's unrelenting devotion, in Gone with the Wind (1939). He died serving his country in World War II, shot down in a KLM plane over the Bay of Biscay. He was only 50 years old.
