Cat. #001554: GEORGE HUMBERT

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Highly uncommon vintage black fountain pen signature on a 4x5-inch tan autograph album page, acquired in-person by inveterate collectors Rose and Irene Geller in the 1950s, and decorated with a Players Directory image. In good condition. Immense, explosive character actor George Humbert popped up in nearly 200 silent and early talkie films, almost always cast as hot-headed Italian restaurateurs, waiters, chefs, organ grinders, and street vendors. He was a veritable scene-stealer in films like Street Scene (1931), Arrowsmith (1931), Little Orphan Annie (1932), A Farewell to Arms (1932), I Cover the Waterfront (1933), Return of the Terror (1934), Chained (1934), the fantasy classic Dante's Inferno (1935), Come and Get It (1936), Winterset (1936), the Boris Karloff thriller Night Key (1937), Kid Galahad (1937), Topper (1937), Heidi (1937), Island in the Sky (1938), Bringing Up Baby (1938), Boys Town (1938), Topper Takes a Trip (1938), Mr. Moto's Last Warning (1939), Fiesta (1941), Hellzapoppin' (1941), I Married an Angel (1942), The Adventures of Mark Twain (1944), Dillinger (1944), Gilda (1946), The Babe Ruth Story (1948), and The Rose Tattoo (1955).
