EXTREMELY rare original artwork by "Ghastly" Graham Ingels-- arguably one of the most gifted artist in the EC horror comics circle in the 1950s-- for page four (this is an isolated page from the full story which I have owned and treasured for years) of the story "Horror... Head... It Off!" published in Tales from the Crypt issue #27 in 1951. The untrimmed paper size is 15x22 inches (38x56 cm) and the image area is 13x18 inches (33x46 cm). It is in good condition for its age, with some curling from having been rolled at some point, and is superb for matting and framing for display. As is almost always the case with non-title pages, there is no signature of the artist. This gorgeous piece of artwork, all in pen and ink with publication stamps and mark-ups around the drawing, shows haunting images of the French Revolution, with a magnificent image of a guillotine-- and is especially remarkable in that Ingels doodled a guillotine blade in pencil in the upper margin which was mostly covered up with editor's white paint! This was purchased from the noted original comic artwork dealer Cool Lines Artwork in 2018.
