Rare and fantastic vintage 10.5 x 13-inch double-weight sepia-tone portrait, boldly signed for director Harry Lachman in April of 1934 and additionally signed in the lower right-hand corner by Universal Studios photographer Roman Freulich. Minor creases to two corners, one passing through the inscription; otherwise, in very fine condition for its age, with no trimming. Pioneering German-born film producer Carl Laemmle, Sr. founded Universal Studios in 1912 and launched the careers of wunderkind Irving Thalberg, director Rex Ingram and the iconic Lon Chaney, among so many others. He is especially dear to the hearts of horror buffs: Famously saying, “We love the thing that shocks us and sends chills down our spine,” he was responsible for the productions of the Chaney masterpieces The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923) and The Phantom of the Opera (1925).
