Absolutely magnificent, one-of-a-kind 11x14-inch black and white portrait in-costume as Dr. Moreau from Island of Lost Souls (1932), signed and inscribed in fountain pen. The only such example known to exist anywhere. In good condition for its age, and not trimmed, as the accompanying scans might suggest. The writing is just a touch light in spots, and there are scattered handling dings and surface creases, but none of these substantially detracts from the overall appearance or desirability of this marvelous item. There are light mounting remnants on the verso, from having been affixed to a scrapbook page. The larger-than-life Oscar winner's other contributions to the horror genre included his portrayals of Sir William Porterhouse in James Whale's The Old Dark House (1932) and Joseph Pevney's The Strange Door (1951), which co-starred Boris Karloff.
