One-of-a-kind character actress Jessie Royce Landis played feisty, blue-blooded matrons, usually far older than her actual age, in films like My Foolish Heart (1949), the sci-fi-themed comedy It Happens Every Spring (1949), To Catch a Thief (1955), The Swan (1956), My Man Godfrey (1957), North by Northwest (1959), and Gidget Goes to Rome (1963).
