Cat. #001642921: JOHN LODGE

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Scarce fountain pen signature on a 4x5-inch tan album page, acquired in-person at the Pasadena Community Playhouse in 1935 and decorated with a magazine image.  This is just the second autograph we have ever encountered of good-looking supporting actor John Lodge, who played Roger Hewitt, opposite Lionel Atwill and Fay Wray, in the horror gem Murders in the Zoo (1933); Brooke in Little Women (1933); Count Alexei in The Scarlet Empress (1934); Ronald Cavendish in Menace (1934); Jack Sherman in The Little Colonel (1935); Hugh Drummond in Bulldog Drummond at Bay (1937); and Stephen Howard in Three on a Weekend (1938) before abandoning Hollywood for politics at age 37.  He ultimately became an ambassador, as did his one-time co-star Shirley Temple.  Lodge had long entertained thoughts of running for office-- That was the reason he gave for turning down the starring role in She Done Him Wrong, opposite the controversial Mae West, in 1933.
