Cat. #00167021: ENID MARKEY

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Scarce vintage inscribed black fountain pen signature on a 4x6-inch off-white card, acquired in-person in the 1960s by inveterate autograph hound John Virzi and decorated with a small book image. In good condition. Theater and screen actress Enid Markey played innocent young things in heaps of silent dramas and comedies, including The Spirit of the Bell (1915) and Civilization (1916). Her best known role came in 1918, when she  was cast as the very first Jane in Adventures of Tarzan, reprised in The Romance of Tarzan later that year.  Shortly thereafter, she abandoned Hollywood to concentrate on stage work, returning sporadically to appear in The Naked City (1948), Barney Fife's landlady Mrs. Mendelbright on T.V.'s "The Andy Griffith Show" (1963) and Edna in The Boston Strangler (1968).
