Cat. #0016702222: JUNE MARLOWE

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Ultra-, ultra-rare 8x10-inch sepia-tone portrait, dating to her Our Gang heyday in the 1930s, blindstamped by photographed Melbourne Spurr and boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen. While we have previously encountered a small handful of photos of the star signed in her later years, this is the only one dating to her prime we have ever seen. In good condition for its age, with minor edgewear. Pretty WAMPAS Baby Star and film starlet June Marlowe left an indelible impression as beloved schoolteacher Miss Crabtree in the Our Gang comedies of the early 1930s.  Firm, but tender when dealing with the Little Rascals, she was the ideal schoolboy crush.  At the height of her popularity in 1933, the actress married businessman Rodney Sprigg and retired from the Hollywood scene, refusing several offers from Hal Roach to reprise her role. She slipped into complete obscurity, shunning any hint of limelight, and suffering privately with the onset of Parkinson's Disease.
