Cat. #0016731531: RODDY MCDOWALL

Uncommonly early 3.5 x 5.5-inch matte-finish black and white portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen in his teenage years. In very fine condition, with some brushing to the "T" in the word "To," given in the dedication. Talented 1930s and 1940s child and juvenile star Roddy McDowall was memorable in films like Murder in the Family (1938), Just William (1940), Man Hunt (1941), How Green Was My Valley (1941), Son of Fury (1942), My Friend Flicka (1943), Lassie Come Home (1943), and The Keys of the Kingdom (1944). In adulthood, he was increasingly confined to television work, including a classic episode of "The Twilight Zone" entitled "People Are Alike All Over" (1960) and the role of the villain Bookworm on "Batman" (1966). He did have key movie roles in historical epics, and horror, sci-fi and fantasy films, however, most notably The Longest Day (1962); Cleopatra (1963); The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965); It! (1967); The Poseidon Adventure (1972); Fright Night (1985) and Fright Night 2 (1988); and the beloved Planet of the Apes series of the 1960s and 1970s, in the starring role of Cornelius.
