Highly rare vintage 7x9-inch black and white portrait, boldly signed in black felt-tip pen, probably in the 1970s. In very fine condition. Just the fifth example we have encountered in 30 years. Perhaps best known by contemporary audiences for his role as the grumpy patriarch of the Parker clan in the holiday classic A Christmas Story (1983), ever-cranky everyman Darren McGavin had long before gained fame on television, as the titular detective on "Mike Hammer" (1958-1959), Captain Holden on "Riverboat" (1959-1961) and the paranormal investigator on the horror-themed "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" (1974-1975).
