Extremely rare typed personal letter are on his letterhead, dated 1939, boldly signed in black fountain pen in an otherwise blank bottom portion, allowing for matting. In good condition, with the expected mailing folds, a few light creases and wear to the bottom edge. Note that the image of the star shown here alongside the scan of the autographed piece is not included. Bald, burly, blustery Burr McIntosh played J. Rufus 'Jim' Wallingford in a long series of comedy shorts before settling into character roles in numerous classic films, memorable as Squire Bartleett in D.W. Griffith's Way Down East (1920) and Josiah Bunce in Carl Laemmle's The Last Warning (1928). He abandoned acting to pursue philanthropic work and his autograph is virtually impossible to find in any format. This is the second we have ever seen.
