Exceedingly rare vintage matte-finish 6.5 x 8.5-inch black and white portrait, boldly signed in black fountain pen along the dark pattern of his suit in the early 1930s. In good condition, with some light creasing to the lower left-hand area, surrounding the writing, as illustrated here. Just the third signed image of the star we have encountered in over 35 years. Jittery, diminutive character actor Donald Meek excelled at playing timid, worrisome types, such that his surname seemed a tad too on the nose. Before his somewhat early death from leukemia, his long list of memorable film credits includes Murder at the Vanities (1934), The Merry Widow (1934), It's a Gift (1934) and My Little Chickadee (1940) with W.C. Fields, Mark of the Vampire (1935) with Bela Lugosi, Captain Blood (1935), Pennies from Heaven (1936), The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1938), Little Miss Broadway (1938), Jesse James (1939), Stagecoach (1939), Young Mr. Lincoln (1939), The Ghost Comes Home (1940), Star Dust (1940), The Wild Man of Borneo (1941), They Got Me Covered (1943), Du Barry Was a Lady (1943), The Thin Man Goes Home (1944), and State Fair (1944).
