SCARCE 7.5 x 9.5-inch black and white portrait by Vandamm Studio, amusingly signed in blue fountain pen: "This awful picture will survive me. God help me! Philip Merivale, 1941." In good condition, with minor corner wear and no trimming; just printed up with thin borders. Great English character actor and screenwriter Philip Merivale made just under 20 forays into classic films of the 1930s and 1940s, and always very memorably, with noteworthy parts in This Above All (1942), Hangmen Also Die! (1943) with Boris Karloff, The Hour Before Dawn (1944), Nothing But Trouble (1944), The Stranger (1946), and Sister Kenny (1946), among others.
