Cat. #00167613: JOHN MERTON

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Exceedingly rare vintage black fountain pen signature-- the third we have seen in over three decades-- adding "Kester", the name of the henchman he played in The Lone Ranger (1938), on a neatly-trimmed 3 x 5.5-inch portion of a tan album page, acquired in-person just after the release of that film. In good condition and suitable for matting with a favorite photograph. Note that the images of the star shown here alongside the scan of the autograph are not included. Before his early death of a heart attack, gigantic, menacing B-movie villain actor John Merton was unforgettable as henchmen, deranged scientists, gansgters, and cold-blooded killers in serials and films like The Red Rider (1934), Under Sea Kingdom (1936), Valley of Terror (1937), Arizona Gunfighter (1937), The Lone Ranger (1938), Phantom Ranger (1938), Dick Tracy Returns (1938), Daredevils of the Red Circe (1939), Zorro's Fighting Legion (1939), Northwest Passage (1940), Drums of Fu Manchu (1940), Queen of the Yukon (1940), The Green Hornet Strikes Again! (1940), I Was a Prisoner on Devil's Island (1941), Mystery Ship (1941), Sea Raiders (1941), Dick Tracy vs. Crime, Inc. (1941), Arizona Terrors (1942), Reap the Wild Wind (1942), Invisible Agent (1942), The Mysterious Rider (1942), Boothill Bandits (1942), Hitler's Children (1943), Sagebrush Law (1943), Hitler's Madman (1943), Adventures of the Flying Cadets (1943), Women in Bondage (1943), West of the Rio Grande (1944), Jungle Queen (1945), Brick Bradford (1947), and Radar Patrol vs. Spy King (1949).
