Scarce vintage 8x10-inch black and white youthful portrait of the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Tales of the South Pacific (1947) and many other works, playfully signed and inscribed in ballpoint pen:  "To Larry Hancher, the author at age 77, showing what clean living will do for a man.  James A. Michener, 3 February 1984".  He has also signed with a red rubber stamp, which gives his initials in Japanese and Western characters.  In very good condition.
