Cat. #0017512012: MAURICE MOSCOVITCH

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Impossible to find vintage black fountain pen signature on a 3.5 x 4.5-inch pale green autograph album page, acquired in-person in the 1910s or 1920s, and decorated with a small magazine image. In good condition and nice for matting. Note that the image of the star shown alongside the scan of the autograph is not included. GREAT, cranky, eye-rolling Russian Jewish character actor Maurice Moscovitch was a star of the Yiddish stage, making 14 unforgettable forays into film. He was heartbreaking as the shopkeeper in Leo McCarey's Make Way for Tomorrow (1937) and hilarious as the art dealer in McCarey's Love Affair (1939). In Charlie Chaplin's The Great Dictator (1940), he was Mr. Jaeckel, the old man who is forced into exile. His other noteworthy movie credits include Winterset (1936), Suez (1938) and Everything Happens at Night (1939).
