Cat. #001770342: ALAN MOWBRAY

Uncommon vintage black fountain pen signature on a 3.25 x 5-inch tan autograph album page, acquired in-person in the 1950s. In good condition and nice for matting with a favorite photograph. British Alan Mowbray was one of the great character actors of the 1930s through 1950s, playing a mixed bag of pompous authority figures, sterling servants, unsuspected murderers, and slick crooks in films like Alexander Hamilton (1931), Voltaire (1933), Roman Scandals (1933), Charlie Chan in London (1934), The House of Rothschild (1935), Becky Sharp (1935), My Man Godfrey (1936), The Case Against Mrs. Ames (1936), Hal Roach's The Devil with Hitler (1942), My Darling Clementine (1946), Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer, Boris Karloff (1949), Wagonmaster (1950), and Around the World in Eighty Days (1956). He also had the distinction of appearing with three of the actors who portrayed Sherlock Holmes on screen, appearing alongside Clive Brook in Sherlock Holmes (1932); Reginald Owen in A Study in Scarlet (1933), in which he played Lestrade; and Basil Rathbone in Terror by Night (1946).
