Cat. #00177412: PAUL MUNI

Flawed but still desirable trimmed portrait, measuring about 6x8 inches and dating to the early 1930s, boldly signed and inscribed in that period in black fountain pen. In fine condition, overall, with some surface creases, the aforementioned paring down for framing purposes and light edgewear. Leading man Paul Muni, who excelled at playing historical figures of great authority, won an Oscar for The Story of Louis Pasteur (1936) and was nominated five more times, for The Valiant (1929), I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1932), Black Fury (1935), The Life of Emile Zola (1937), and The Last Angry Man (1957). Dubbed "The New Lon Chaney" at the onset of his career, owing to his astounding ability to transform himself into an assortment of hideous and exotic characters, he was elsewhere memorable in Seven Faces (1929), Scarface (1932), Bordertown (1935), The Good Earth (1937), Juarez (1939), and Angel on My Shoulder (1946).
