Cat. #0019632: EDGAR NORTON

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Extraordinarily rare vintage signature in fountain pen-- just the second we've ever encountered!-- on a 4x6-inch tan album page, acquired in-person by inveterate collectors Irene and Rose Gellar in 1940s, and decorated with a Players Directory image. In good condition, with negligible handling dings and light toning, and suitable for matting with a favorite photograph. Note that the image of the star, shown here alongside the scan of the autograph, is not included. Edgar Norton, slight, wizened English character actor of the stage, and silent and early talkie screens, was a staple performer in classic horror, sci-fi and fantasy films, playing the Lord High Chancellor in The Man Who Laughs (1928), and the butlers Poole, Hobbs and Benson in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931), Dracula's Daughter (1936), and Son of Frankenstein (1939), respectively. Elsewhere, he played similarly aristocratic or servile roles in films like Student Prince (1926), The Love Parade (1929), Imitation of Life (1934), Top Hat (1935), The Mad Empress (1939), Captain Fury (1939), The Man in the Iron Mask (1939), House of the Seven Gables (1940), and The Paradine Case (1947).
