Cat. #00196342: HUGH O'CONNELL

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Uncommon vintage inscribed fountain pen signature on a 4x6-inch pale pink autograph album page, acquired in-person in the 1930s. In good condition.  Friendly-faced character actor Hugh O'Connell portrayed bighearted cops, reporters, teachers, butlers, and clerks in nearly forty classic films of the 1930s and 1940s.  After memorable work in The Smiling Lieutenant (1931), The Affair of Susan (1935), That Certain Woman (1937), Torchy Blane in Panama (1938), Mystery House (1938), and My Favorite Wife (1940), he played Lawrence Watkins in the Basil Rathbone horror flick The Mad Doctor in 1941.  O'Connell died tragically of undisclosed causes at the age of 44 and this is just the second autograph of the actor we've encountered to date.
