Extremely rare and quite exceptional vintage 8x10-inch double-weight sepia-tone publicity portrait was Dr. Yogami in the Universal Studios horror classic Werewolf of London (1935), boldly signed in violet fountain pen in a shadowy area of the photo around the time of the film's release. The writing is clearer on the actual photo than might be suggested by the scans shown here. In good condition for its age, with a wavy patch of discoloration in the upper right-hand area, well away from the writing itself, and some gentle edge and corner wear. Best remembered for his longtime portrayal of the Chinese gumshoe Charlie Chan, silent and early talkie character actor Warner Oland is further revered by horror, sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, and crime flick fans for the title role in The Return of Fu Manchu (1930), as well as his portrayals of mad scientist Boris Karlov (get it?) in Drums of Jeopardy (1931) and Dr. Yogami in Werewolf of London (1935).
