Rare, quite early vintage 8x10-inch sepia-tone portrait with three hole punches, apparently taken from an agent's casting book, warmly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen to a sailor friend, probably in the late 1920s. In fine condition, with the aforementioned punctures and a light diagonal crease to the upper right-hand corner. Best remembered for his longtime portrayal of the Chinese gumshoe Charlie Chan, silent and early talkie character actor Warner Oland is further revered by horror, sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, and crime flick fans for the title role in The Return of Fu Manchu (1930), as well as his portrayals of mad scientist Boris Karlov (get it?) in Drums of Jeopardy (1931) and Dr. Yogami in Werewolf of London (1935).
