Cat. #00198622: EUGENE PALLETTE

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Extraordinary 5x8-inch sepia-tone image from his handsome silent movie cowboy days-- QUITE a far cry from the jelly-belly character star of later decades!-- signed in green fountain pen around 1914, when he was with Reliance Pictures. The earliest example of an already scarce autograph we have ever encountered, in good condition, overall, with slightly uneven trimming; light mounting remnants on the verso, and two gentle horizontal folds. Rotund, cranky character actor Eugene Pallette appeared in nearly 250 silent and early talkie films, most notably D.W. Griffith's Intolerance (1916), The Ten Commandments (1923), The Canary Murder Case (1929), Huckleberry Finn (1931), The Dragon Murder Case (1934), The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1940), Young Tom Edison (1940), The Mark of Zorro (1940), The Lady Eve (1941), and Heaven Can Wait (1943).
