Vintage 9.5 x 7-inch glossy black and white publicity still from 1937's Varsity Show, shown with co-star Rosemary Lane, boldly signed and inscribed in violet fountain pen in-person for noted collector Kay Ingram in the period of the film. In fine condition for its age, with slight trimming from 10x8 inches for framing purposes. Dick Powell earned fame as a juvenile lead in the Warner backstage musicals, opposite such rising stars as Ruby Keeler and Joan Blondell, and went on to play private eye roles, before switching gears and becoming a television and film director. He died young, of liver cancer, and his autograph is somewhat elusive.
